Son of Paladin Took, the Shire Thain, Peregrin (Pippin) Took accompanied Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, and Merry Brandybuck on a quest to destroy the Ring of power. Pippin and Merry were captured by orcs, escaped with the help of the Ent, Treebeard, and were present at the destruction of Isengard. Pippin traveled with Gandalf to Minas Tirith and became a soldier of Gondor serving Denethor. The people of Minas Tirith believed that Pippin was an Ernil i Pheriannath (Prince of the Halflings). After the War of the Ring, Pippin returned home to great renown, married, and became the Thain of the Shire.
